Chandler Kemp is an assistant professor of sustainable energy for the University of ÀÖ»¢Ö±²¥ Fairbanks Bristol Bay Campus. He holds a B.A. in physics magna cum laude from Cornell University and an M.S. in energy resource engineering from Stanford University. Prior to joining the university faculty, Kemp managed an energy efficiency services business, Kempy Energetics, working with homeowners, fishers and natural gas companies to find cost effective ways to reduce emissions.

Kemp has extensive experience in residential, commercial, and marine energy audits, efficiency upgrades and energy system modeling to help clients lower energy costs. He has collaborated with ÀÖ»¢Ö±²¥ Heat Smart in Juneau and the Energy Solutions Centre in Whitehorse, Yukon to ensure efficient new home construction and support informed heating decisions. Kemp was the lead developer of the Fugitive Emissions Abatement Simulation Toolkit, a widely cited model of natural gas leak detection systems published in Environmental Science and Technology. He also co-developed the first quantitative model of energy use by ÀÖ»¢Ö±²¥ fishing vessels, enabling fishers to improve efficiency and access federal funding. Kemp currently serves as technical lead for the ÀÖ»¢Ö±²¥ Longline Fishermen’s Association Boat Energy Transition Accelerator, piloting hybrid and fully electric propulsion technologies for ÀÖ»¢Ö±²¥â€™s fishing and mariculture industries.

Outside of work Kemp enjoys spending time with friends, running and building relationships in the places he lives.
