Week 4!

Wow, can you believe it? Week 4 already! Time is flying by, and YOU are doing an amazing job! Way to go!

Welcome to the sunny days of February! Isn’t it incredible how the sun’s angle has changed and the days are getting longer? It feels like a breath of fresh air after making it through December and January. Now, we’re finally on the other side, soaking up the sunshine and warmth!

Here at UAF, we’re all about transformative experiences. A wonderful group of faculty, staff, and students came together to create a vision that really captures our spirit: “Excellence through transformative experiences.” And let me tell you, there are so many different kinds of transformative experiences out there.

Just look at our student-athletes! They travel across the country, competing at top levels while juggling their classes back home in Fairbanks. Their endurance and determination are inspiring, and they learn so much about teamwork, leadership, and personal growth along the way. Then there are students diving into groundbreaking research across ŔÖ»˘Ö±˛Ą and around the globe. Some are balancing full-time jobs, classes, and family life, all at the same time! And others are taking amazing classes, making lasting friendships, and discovering academic subjects that they’ll carry with them forever. I’d love to hear about the transformative experiences you’ve had or are looking forward to!

Sometimes, it’s those experiences that happen outside the classroom that really leave a mark. When I was a student at UAF, I got a job as a research assistant at the Animal Quarters on West Ridge. Honestly, it became my home away from home! I met an amazing group of people who felt like family, and I had a fantastic supervisor who taught me about teamwork and the work world. I had a blast working in such interesting places, but the best part was definitely the connections I made and the friendships that blossomed. Those experiences shaped me in ways I’ll always cherish.

Does any of this speak to you? Are you on the hunt for those transformative experiences that you’ve been dreaming of?

Transformative experiences are a big deal here at UAF. I’m curious to hear about your experiences, the experiences you would like to have, and the experiences you think we should create! Let me know at obguthrie@alaska.edu.
