2026 Discover �ֻ�ֱ�� lecture series starts June 3

The �ֻ�ֱ�� will host the Discover �ֻ�ֱ�� lecture series starting on June 3.

The 2026 series is presented by UAF Summer Sessions and Lifelong Learning in cooperation with the Elmer E. Rasmuson Library. 

The free public lectures will be at 7 p.m. Wednesdays at the BP Design Theater, located on the fourth floor of the Usibelli Building on the UAF Troth Yeddha’ Campus. Parking on campus is free after 5 p.m.

The presentations will also be livestreamed on the events page and made available as videos on the summer sessions website within two weeks of the live event.

This year’s Discover �ֻ�ֱ�� lineup includes:

• June 3 – “Cultural Relevance in Tribal Libraries,” Tyson Rinio, assistant professor of library science
• June 10 – “Moving Pictures, Moving Stories: What Our Film Archives Reveal,” Angela Schmidt, film archivist
• June 17 – “Stories from the Archives: Ordinary People in Extraordinary Moments,” Fawn Carter, archivist
• June 24 – “From Myths to Maps: Imagining �ֻ�ֱ�� Through Rare Works at the Elmer E. Rasmuson Library,” Rachel Cohen, assistant professor of library science
• July 8 – “Stories in the Stacks: How Our Collections Tell a Story,” Genova Brookes Boyd, assistant professor of library science; Leslie McCartney, curator of oral history
• July 15 – “Whose Shelf, Whose Story? Censorship and Book Bans,” Elizabeth Dawson, assistant professor of library science
• July 22 – “Smart Scrolling: How to Consume News Without Getting Consumed,” Drake Jesse, visiting professor of library science
• July 29 – “Research Like a Scholar, Think Like a Critic: Information Library Essentials,” Elizabeth Dawson, assistant professor of library science; Genova Brookes Boyd, assistant professor of library science
• Aug. 5 – “Beyond the Hype: Understanding AI in Your Daily Life,” Genova Brookes Boyd, assistant professor of library science
• Aug. 12 – “Using the �ֻ�ֱ�� Native Language Archive,” John DiCandeloro, ANLA collections manager
