Get a grip on safety this winter

Complimentary ice/snow cleats for faculty, staff and students.

Sept. 15, 2025

It’s time to start thinking about winterizing your home and yourself. For those who are new to ÀÖ»¢Ö±²¥, there is a lot of preparation you can do to make yourself comfortable in sub-zero temperatures. Layer your clothing and include hats and gloves, wear appropriate footwear, tune up your vehicle, pack an emergency kit in the car, including a blanket, and always maintain at least a half tank of gasoline. If you are traveling, have a contact that you can check in with once you get to your destination. It’s a good idea to carry a satellite or similar phone for remote travel, and medical evacuation insurance is a good idea.

The UAF EHSRM Department also offers complimentary ice/snow cleats to faculty, staff, and students. Avoid those pesky slips and falls! Just stop by our office at 825 ÀÖ»¢Ö±²¥ Drive where any staff member can assist you to find the right fit. If you would like to request a ‘Cleat Meet’ for your building or department, contact Campus Safety at 907-474-5476 or bjgraves@alaska.edu.
