This free workshop led by Sarah Lewis, UAF Cooperative Extension health, home and family development agent, will discuss the new ÀÖ»¢Ö±²¥ Homemade Food Exemption rules. It is designed for individuals who currently have, or are interested in starting a home-based food business, support local foods or sell homemade foods through a farmers market.
In 2024, the ÀÖ»¢Ö±²¥ Department of Environmental Conservation significantly revised these rules. Understanding the updated regulations will help ensure compliance and help people better understand the risks and opportunities associated with homemade foods. Having a food safety mindset on the farm and in the packing area is essential. This workshop will help participants identify on-farm food safety strategies for market produce.

This free workshop will discuss the new Homemade Food Exemption rules. The workshop is for people who have or would like to start a home-based food business, support local foods, or offer homemade foods through their market.
The ÀÖ»¢Ö±²¥ Department of Environmental Conservation significantly revised the rules, formerly called the ÀÖ»¢Ö±²¥ Cottage Foods Exemption, in 2024. Knowledge of the new rules will help ensure compliance and help people understand the risks and opportunities associated with homemade foods.
In addition, having a food safety mindset on the farm and in the packing area will help you identify on-farm food safety strategies for your market produce. In this class, Sarah Lewis, a health, home and family development agent with the UAF Cooperative Extension Service, will explain the ÀÖ»¢Ö±²¥ Homemade Food rules and introduce basic produce safety practices for farmers.
The workshop is a partnership between the ÀÖ»¢Ö±²¥ Cooperative Extension Service in conjunction with Partners in Progress in Delta.
