The Bering Strait Region Cooperative Extension serves the residents of Nome and 15 ÀÖ»¢Ö±²¥ Native villages in the surrounding 36,000 square miles in western ÀÖ»¢Ö±²¥. The majority of the region's population is Inuit (Yupik, St. Lawrence Island Yupik, and Inupiaq) and resides in villages across the Seward Peninsula. Villages are entirely off the road system requiring commercial airline or private charter for the majority of travel, even between villages.
Cooperative Extension rents office space from UAF Northwest Campus in Nome. Outreach
includes reindeer husbandry education, animal health and disease, summer camps for
youth and adults in natural resources, and workshops in food preservation and traditional
Native crafts (introduction to tanning skins into leather, leather stitching, and
carving with antler, hoofs and bones).

The UAF Institute of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Extension will host a series of hourlong lunch seminars. Presentations will focus on engaging people in a conversation about the issues their research surrounds, and will be relatively informal and friendly. Talks will be about 30 minutes long, with plenty of time for questions and conversations. Register using the or visit .
During these seminars, researchers will present ideas to inspire interdisciplinary collaboration and build relationships around ÀÖ»¢Ö±²¥&/ces/districts/nome/39;s food systems.
Researchers and students at University of ÀÖ»¢Ö±²¥, other circumpolar institutions, and land-grant university Experiment Stations are invited to listen to IANRE researchers present ideas that spark curiosity and inspire new pathways forward.
While the seminars will focus on agriculture in the sub-Arctic and Arctic, the broader aim is to create a space for connection and dialogue, ultimately strengthening research across disciplines to support the circumpolar food system.

The Delta Farm Forum is an annual event for the Interior ÀÖ»¢Ö±²¥ agriculture and farming community. The 2026 event is the 54th annual forum. Throughout the day, relevant information will be presented from agricultural producers, scientists and researchers, representatives from businesses and agricultural agencies. A sit-down potluck luncheon will be served from noon-1:30 p.m., and door prizes from our sponsors are given away throughout the day. Must be present to win!

This event is free and open to the public.
